Mentors - IIBA-SA Mentorship Programme

The following professionals have offered to be mentors for the recently piloted IIBA-SA Mentorship Programme.

                  diedre.png Diedre Forbay

Deidre has been a Business Analyst for almost 10 years, the last 6 years of which have been as a Senior Business Analyst at Dynamic Visual Technologies (DVT).  She is passionate about business analysis. She spent the first 5 years of her career in waterfall environments, and thereafter got exposure to Agile.  Her background equips her with the necessary skills to allow her to mentor and train students and junior Business Analysts in both environments, as well as to guide them through the transformation from waterfall to Agile.  She has worked in government, telecommunications, training and telematics industries, and has had exposure to various software development projects, including mobile applications.  Some of the big enterprises that she was assigned to, as a consultant, are the South African Reserve Bank and Vodacom. She is a Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) with experience as a scrum master and software tester.  She is an ICAgile Authorised Business Value Analysis (BVA) course instructor and tremendously enjoys her role as the BVA trainer at the DVT Academy.   On a more personal note, she is a mother of 2 teenage girls who views every experience in her life as a stepping stone on her journey to true fulfilment.   She also believes that mentoring should be a combination of professional as well as personal growth, and not just focusing on the mentee’s career.

              gottlieb.png Gottlieb Wilken

Gottlieb is currently managing various teams of analysts and reforming the Analysis capabilities within organisations, with the focus of creating enterprise, business and solution analysis capabilities. His expertise lies in establishing a “Centre of Excellence” for analysis within the companies and implementing project management. The aim is to showcase the value of these processes and capabilities within organisations. He is passionate about business systems analysis, and his core skills are on his technical abilities and driving delivery throughout the SDLC (Waterfall and Agile). Previously in his career Gottlieb was the director of a consulting firm and he has managed various development teams. This helped him to develop understanding of the design issues and solutions development and implementation geared the value extraction.  He is a Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP), and his business analysis practice is highly aligned to the BABOK. He is also a certified facilitator, and is competent with the PMBOK, TOGAF 9, ISO9126, MSCP. He has experience with various methodologies including Agile and traditional Waterfall, and his area of speciality is in strategy definition.

Irene Georgiou

IIrene has been a practising Business Analyst since 2009.  Her current role in her organisation's BA CoE’s is that of a BA Practice Lead. As a result, she carries the responsibility of running the training sessions for the junior and aspiring Business Analysts. Further to that, she also plays a Lead BA role for the organisation’s robotics initiative. Prior to being a Practice Lead, she was a Senior BA working in the BI data warehouse team and was involved in numerous data projects across the retail and institutional asset management areas. She has also worked on projects spanning across the finance and commissions areas. She has experienced in budgeting and management accounting operational processes.

Samantha is a Value Architect and accomplished business advisor offering over 23 years of experience in the ICT field. Her core focus includes creating Business and IT Strategic alignment, translating this into tactical and practical implementation plans and executing against these to realise the business and client value. She has experience across Financial, Insurance, Banking, Telecommunications and Multimedia industries in roles that span across Management Consulting, Business Architecture, Strategy, Portfolio Management and Business Analysis.

Preferences: Samantha would be keen to mentor someone who is very senior in their career (10 years +) and is keen to move to the next stage of their development.

                       danie.png Danie van den Berg

Danie van den Berg is a consulting Certified Business Analyst Professional (CBAP) with 18 years of experience across financial, retail, media and insurance industries. He has worked as Strategy Analyst, Business Analyst, Business Architect, Trainer, Development Manager, Product Owner, Project Manager and Scrum Master. He specialises in Business Analysis and has extensive experience in projects ranging from android app development, business re-engineering and bespoke solutions to large-scale enterprise architecture and process-driven, end-to-end EPR implementations. He connects strategy, information, people, technology, legislation and process. He is skilled at understanding core client problems and eliciting, documenting and designing solution requirements. Danie challenges stakeholders on all levels of the enterprise by facilitating engagements that result in clear identification of both current problems and future solutions. He enjoys mentoring BA professionals, teaching business analysis topics and prepping BAs for CBAP exams. He is passionate about the role a Business Analyst plays within organisations and believes it is central to changing and improving the world we work and live in.

       melissa.png Melissa Kamoran

Melissa Kamoran has 6 years’ experience in process engineering design in the petrochemical industry. She has also worked as a corporate consultant and a project manager. Her levels of responsibility included technical design and implementation of projects from conceptual studies to detail engineering and planning as well as construction and commissioning support.  Her experience also includes project management, program management and coordination of projects. She has worked on and led many projects for major clients including Sasol, Sapref, Sonaref, IDC and Nampak.  Her latest role is as a Business Analyst at Investec Private Bank.  Her responsibilities include engaging with the private bank business, understanding their challenges and translating their requirements into system development specifications.  The role involves managing and eliciting business requirements as well as managing stakeholder expectations, facilitation of requirements workshops and agile ceremonies as well as ensuring effective communication to the business stakeholders and development/scrum team.  She is involved in running the business analysis pride in the craft community within Investec, which involves coordinating events, ensuring knowledge transfer and learning amongst the Business Analysts as well as mentoring the younger analysts in the community.

                anton.png Anton Oosthuizen

As a PMI Certified Business Analyst (PMI PBA), project manager and agile practitioner, Anton has spent over two decades working on large complex software development, integration and implementation projects all over the world. While he has experience in a wide variety of business landscapes such as banking, finance, and insurance, he has honed his skills as a Business Analyst, project manager and business consultant primarily in the general ICT and aviation domains with a primary focus on process improvement. During this time he has built up a skill set that covers technical, business and soft requirements. His belief is that while education is important, the willingness to walk the sometimes long and hard road towards a better solution with your stakeholders takes precedence. His approach, therefore, is to stand in the shoes of his stakeholders, be it the administrator or the CEO, to see and understand the business from their perspective.

                deanne.png Deanne Roberts

Deanne has about 25 years working experience in various environments with corporate and small business environments, and she hopes that this experience will help guide her mentees in the best direction for their careers and personal growth. She is currently working as Business Analyst within Discovery Vitality in Sandton, and her previous role in this space was in Business Change Management.  She has, in the past, been exposed to Business Process Improvement, and Implementation of internal system applications. Although she is not technical, she understands the technical aspects and components necessary to ensure systems run smoothly in production with minimal impact to business processes. She has an FTI BA Diploma, which she obtained in 2015, and is currently studying towards a Higher Certificate in Management. Her environment is fast paced, with lots of challenges that need immediate solutions to keep business running smoothly. She has solid Agile experience.

Minky Kgopa is a South African BCOM Informatics graduate with more than a decade of relevant working experience. Her expertise as a Senior Business Analyst has added immense value to well executed projects within multinational corporate companies in various sectors, including, but not limited to finance, gaming, hospitality, healthcare and the public sector. When she's not project managing and/or contributing to solutions for small and large blue chip corporates, she's mentoring young graduates to strive for an even higher level of excellence. 

esme.png Esme Pretorius

Over the past 11 years Esme has worked for 4 different IT companies as a Business Analyst, comprising a good mixture of internal and external (outsourced) projects. This has provided her with exposure to different types of projects in an array of industries. Her experience ranges from scoping of projects to post implementation support. She has also been exposed to Data Analysis and Business Intelligence. Currently, her focus is on Customer Relationship Management, Business Process Re-engineering, Systems Integration, Data Analysis and Reporting Dashboards. These activities cut across the following industries - Agricultural, Fast Food, Short-Term Insurance, Call Centres and Department of Higher Education. In the previous years, her industry exposure was in Waste Management, Fleet Management, Financial Adviser, Medical Aid, and South African Hunters Association. She is a CBAP, and believes solutions should be simple yet elegant. Her strong belief is that communication is everything.

Arrie is an experienced Lead Business System Analyst with a demonstrated history of working in the Online Education, Telecoms and Built environments.  He is skilled in Business Process, Service Delivery, Requirements Analysis, Service-Level Agreements (SLA), and Enterprise Architecture.  He is a strong business development professional who is ITIL® Foundation Certified. He is passionate about people development, hence his love for mentorship.

               lara.png Lara Suddes

Lara Suddes is a Business Analysis educator who works with beginner and practising Business Analysts to improve their business analysis skills, knowledge, understanding and application in the workplace.  She runs her own company, trading as Think1st Business Analysis, and consults to Faculty Training Institute as a course manager, lecturer, assessor & moderator.  She is involved in the following programmes Certificate in Business Analysis, Applied Programme Business Analysis, Advanced Programme Business Analysis, Analytical Thinking and Creative Problem Solving, and Professional Writing Skills.  She has previously worked as the Learning Technology Analyst for MTN Global Learning and Development Centre of Excellence who provides learning solutions to 30,000+ learners worldwide. She served as technical project manager, business systems analyst and systems administrator for the e-Live (SumTotal) Learning Management System across the entire multi-national organisation. Her other roles while she was at MTN were SAS Report Developer, IT Training, and eLearning Specialist, and she won numerous MTN Staff and Supplier awards for her work.  Lara is a registered MICT SETA constituent Assessor and Moderator for both 63769 National Certificate Business Analysis Support Practices, and 63909 National Certificate Business Analysis.  She is a certified NLP Practitioner & Life Coach.

Melissa Botha

Melissa has more than 10 years  Business Analysis experience, she is motivated and has exceptional leadership and interpersonal abilities. She is prepared to significantly contribute to the Mentorship Programme in order to ensure all goals within the programme are met. Her background includes strong educational as well as a practical abilities. During past mentorship roles, she focused on supporting employees to acquire and improve their skills in order to achieve their full potential. She assists individuals to evaluate their performance and develop improvement strategies and she offers leadership, advice, guidance and support to assist them in achieving their goals. Her strengths are in collaborating with cross-functional teams and demonstrating superb active listening skills. Her strong educational background and extensive experience in the business analysis field, together with her interpersonal and communication skills make her an exceptional mentor. She enjoys working with people and transferring her knowledge.

Thabani has over 20 years of Retail, Franchise and Business management experience in the following industries and sectors: supermarket, petroleum retail, quick serve restaurant. His experience includes field consultant, business owner, operations, marketing, brand management, business development, strategy and human resources and financial management. Though his consulting and coaching company under Business Doctor brand, he has helped business owners achieve their vision by using innovative value-building solutions and handson support which is applicable to multi-sectorial industries.
